The Parallel Application of Change Management and Project Management in Construction Projects

A presentation on how change management should run parallel to project management, but often it does not. Prosci developed the ADKAR model for Change Management. It’s similar in many ways to the process areas of the PMBOK, but it focuses on people rather than execution, monitoring and control of scope. Since change and adjustment are constant in the construction environment, there are tangible benefits for an organization in applying the ADKAR process to the construction project management process. In order for organizational change to happen, individuals must change. And an organization that has a strong platform for change will effect change more efficiently, and therefore perform better.

The GPM Way

Tim will present key aspects of the graphical path method (GPM) of project planning and scheduling that represent emerging, or improve on existing, best practices that will change the project, program, and portfolio management landscape as we know it. The principles provide a credible way forward for those practitioners who agree with the premise that “the current state of scheduling practices is wasteful,” not to mention with the tenet of the ENR story on 05/26/2003, where O’Brien, Plotnick, Wickwire, & Ockman lamented that “Critics Can’t Find the Logic in Many of Today’s CPM Schedules.”
