PMA Owner Given ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ Award by Crain’s Business Detroit
Detroit, MI ()
PMA Consultants LLC (PMA), a leader in construction project management, was honored this week as owner and founder, Dr. Gui Ponce de Leon, was presented with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2013 from Crain’s Detroit Business magazine.
Ponce de Leon is recognized in the $30 million to $50 million revenue category and receives recognition not only for PMA investments in building trusting, long-lasting, and personal relationships with its clients, but also for developing specialized software, NetPoint, that promotes detailed project development and planning through stakeholder involvement at all project levels. NetPoint allows a project to be viewed visually through a series of graphics that represent different pieces of a project. These pieces can then be physically moved and the impact of the project schedule viewed in real time.
Prior to his work at PMA, Ponce de Leon worked as an intern at Ann Arbor-based Townsend & Bottum, where he was instrumental in helping the company use critical path method software. Soon after, he was asked to lead a T&B subsidiary using the new software methods. In 1980, Dr. Gui left the firm to form PMA Consultants.
Ponce de Leon earned his first engineering degree from the National University of Engineering in Lima, Peru, where he grew up. Later, he attended the University of Michigan, where he obtained an MS in Construction Engineering and Management and a PhD in Civil Engineering. Following graduation, he served as adjunct professor in the University of Michigan’s graduate Construction Management Program from 1973 to 1989.
