Page Size

NetPoint is unique in that whatever page size is set for the schedule is exactly the size that is printed. Therefore, selecting the proper size for the planning surface is imperative.

Choosing a new page size will increase or decrease the horizontal width of the canvas by stretching it, and it will increase or decrease the vertical height of the canvas by adding or removing gridlines.

Print Setup

Each printer has a set of page sizes it supports. The page size will determine not just how the schedule prints but also how it displays on-screen. It is recommended to choose the page size anticipated for printing, create the plan based on that page size, and use the zoom and stretch controls to enhance readability on-screen.

Creating a New Schedule

When creating a new schedule, the page size will always default to letter.

To change page size, select File > Print Setup. The Print Setup window will open from which a different printer may be chosen, or the page size, source, and orientation may be specified.

A large page size can only be used if the time unit is reasonably high or if the duration of the project is sufficiently short. Otherwise, the width of a time unit would be less than the width of a pixel on screen, and input from the mouse would no longer translate accurately on the canvas. Factors which affect the ratio of pixels to time units are:

  • Schedule time unit
  • Duration of the schedule (calendar start and end dates)
  • Size of the canvas (page size chosen for print)
  • Print Tiling
  • Monitor resolution

If any of the above factors are changed which result in a schedule with less than one pixel per time unit, the Resolution Violation Alert window will open until the situation is corrected.

When finished making changes, click OK to exit.

Opening an Existing Schedule

When opening an existing schedule, the canvas will default to the page size in which it was last saved. It may not be possible to use the same dimensions, however, if the printer used when last saved isn’t installed or is unavailable on the network. If this happens, a warning will open.

netpoint printer warning message

The schedule will not open until a printer and page size have been set. To assist the user, the warning lists both the printer and page size dimensions in which the schedule was last saved.

Clicking the OK button will automatically open the Print Setup window. Once a new printer and page size have been set and the plan saved, the warning will no longer open.

NOTE: If the printer is available but the driver doesn’t match (likely with “software only” print drivers, e.g. Microsoft XPS Document Writer or Adobe PDF), a similar warning will open. The schedule will open once a new printer and page size have been chosen.
