Delay/Gain Objects

In addition to a regular activity, there is also a delay/gain object. Delay/gain objects are different in that they can have a duration of zero. If the duration is set to zero, both the start and end nodes align to the start-of-time-unit. Delays are useful for showing positive or negative impacts to the schedule or for atypical activities. They are represented by a hashed bar.

Delay/gain objects will not accept resources or embedded nodes, as there would be no duration to associate the resource or embeds to. They will however accept info objects. Adding and modifying delay/gain objects is otherwise similar to regular activities.

Note: Because annotations can be more easily modified than descriptions (click-to-move, edit-in-place), it may be desirable to use them instead of descriptions. Check the box next to Copy Description as Annotation to take advantage of this flexibility.

Override Critical Color for Delays/Gains

The critical red color for delay activities can be overridden through Objects > Override Critical Color for Delays. Once this option is checked, all delay activities display in their original color, even if critical.

Converting Between Activities and Delays

Activities may be converted to delays and vice versa.

To change an activity to a delay, right-click on the desired activity and select Convert to Delay.

This option will be disabled if the activity has an embedded node, is assigned any resources, or is actualized.

The same may be done to convert a delay to an activity. It will be disabled, however, if the delay has a duration of zero.
