Info Objects

Info objects are external files or attachments. Placing an info object onto the canvas is a way to embed a document within the schedule for viewing. The toolbar icon is only for placing info objects onto the canvas. To attach info objects to activities, milestones, and benchmarks, open their Object windows and choose the Info Object tab.

To place an info object on the canvas, click the Info Object icon from the toolbar. Once the cursor moves over the canvas, it changes from the Select Tool to a set of crosshairs.

To place the info object, release the mouse button at the desired date, indicated by the text above the crosshairs.

Once an info object has been placed on the canvas, the Info Object Properties window opens automatically.

Properties

The Properties window is where basic settings are changed.

Description

If desired, enter a name for the info object in the Description field to display below the object on the canvas. Revisit the Info Object Properties window at any time to edit the description.

Short descriptions are best to avoid data clashing. If a short name is insufficient, stack the text lines by pressing the Enter key to add a new line. This avoids text extending beyond the width of the object.

File Link

Click Browse… to locate the desired file.

When finished, click OK to close and save the window.

To view the file, double-click the Info Object icon on the canvas, or right-click, select Properties, and click View…. The file will open outside of NetPoint.

Info Object File Locations

It’s best to save anticipated info objects to the same folder before linking to them from within NetPoint. When sending a schedule to a different user, compress and send this folder as well. The folder must have the same file path in order for the files to be opened on a different machine. Otherwise, the info objects will not open.
